Home Visits
You will be offered the chance to have a home visit in the weeks preceding your child’s entry into school. Your child’s reception teacher will come to visit you and your child at home for about half an hour.
The session is very informal and is aimed at giving your child the chance to meet their teacher, who is a stranger, in the comfort and security of their own home. The teacher will be able to chat to your child about their interests, their family, pets, etc and will also be able to answer any questions they may have about starting school. It also gives you, the parent or carer, the chance to discuss any concerns you may have about your child starting school.
Home visits are very popular with the children, as they have the chance to show their teacher where they live and to chat to them in a calm, one to one situation, without there being lots of other children around. It also shows the child that, although the teacher is a stranger, they are someone who it is safe to talk to and to be with, as you have quite happily invited her into your home.
As a school, we are very keen to do home visits and would encourage all families to take the opportunity to have one.
